Brooklyn funk meets old world style
We transformed a backyard from an unfinished construction site into an urban oasis. Entertaining friends, growing herbs for the kitchen and incorporating pops of color and found objects were all important to our client. A funky Brooklyn aesthetic was mixed with an old world European feel to create a modern look that felt like it had been there forever.
The garden installation, including four large espaliered Hornbeam (Carpinus betulus) trees weighing several hundred pounds, all came up the front stoop of the townhouse, through the apartment and out the back. Other plants featured in the design were tall Smokebush (Cotinus coggygria) for its amazing purple foliage and leafy texture, a star white Crepe Myrtle (Lagerstroemia sp.) and pops of colorful Agave. Garden decorations and lush green plantings created an environment perfect for enjoying an evening with friends away from the relentless grind of city life.
